Split BX and BX Plus wire-mesh packing

BXPlus is a new modification of the well-proven BX wire-mesh packing. Its geometry is similar to MellapakPlus. BXPlus provides the same efficiency as BX but with 20% lower hydraulic resistance. This packing is recommended for distillation of heat-sensitive substances at increased capacity.

Preferred operating conditions:

  • For a large number of theoretical separation stages

  • From 1 mbar vacuum to atmospheric pressure

  • Where minimal pressure drop per theoretical separation stage is important

  • For columns with a low overall height

  • Batch and continuous columns

  • Pilot columns (scale-up capability)

Limited use:

  • For fouling media that form deposits

  • For non-wetting liquids. Applications:

  • Plastic monomers (MDI, DMT, etc.)

  • Fatty acids and alcohols, fatty acid esters

  • Mono-, di-, tri- and tetraethylene glycols

  • Fine organic chemicals

Fields of Application

basic chemicals
petrochemicals

Advantages

Large number of theoretical separation stages per unit height
Pressure drop for 1 theoretical separation stage: 0.1–0.5 mbar
Most economical load range: F-factor 1–2.5
Minimum liquid load ~0.05 m3/m2h
Low liquid hold-up
