SplitGrid grid packing

SplitGrid packing (formerly Mellagrid until 2023) combines the efficiency of structured packing with the mechanical strength of a grid. SplitGrid packing is used where high rigidity of structured-packing elements is required or where there is a risk of coking or fouling of the packing surface.

Fields of Application

Atmospheric or vacuum column in crude-oil primary processing: wash section
Fractionator of visbreaking and thermal cracking units: wash section
Main fractionator of a catalytic cracking unit: wash section
Primary fractionator and pyrolysis-gas water-quench column of an ethylene production unit: bottom section

Advantages

Resistant to coking and fouling due to the smooth surface and geometric shape of the packing
Effective temperature equalisation along the column profile
Lower liquid entrainment and higher separation efficiency than conventional grid packing
The small packing-element height and its structure facilitate cleaning. Packing blocks can be dismantled, removed and cleaned with a high-pressure water jet.
High mechanical strength
